About Us
The Professional Fire Fighters of South Dakota (PFFSD) was established at a meeting held in Sioux Falls on November 25th, 1950. The fire departments that were represented were Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Mitchell, Watertown, Aberdeen, and Huron. The cities of Lead and Deadwood joined in 1953.

Today the PFFSD represents over 300 fire fighters and paramedics in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Watertown, and Mitchell.

The objectives of the PFFSD are to cultivate a closer feeling of friendship and fellowship among the fire fighters/emergency medical personnel of the state of South Dakota; the promotion of legislation to advance the interests of fire fighters/emergency medical personnel; to maintain and improve an effective and substantial pension law; to promote as safe and healthy working environment for the fire fighters/emergency medical personnel as possible; to promote emergency medical services as a fire-based service; to protect the fire fighters/emergency medical personnel in their positions; and the maintenance and improvement of the right to collective bargaining for the firefighters/emergency medical personnel in every fire department in the state of South Dakota.
